Convert JPG to BMP

Strips the compression out entirely and writes raw pixels. The result is enormous and looks identical, artifacts and all. Done when a piece of old software demands a BMP and will not be argued with.

What is JPG?

JPEG is where photographs live. Its compression is lossy - it throws away detail the eye is bad at noticing, and throws away a bit more every time you re-save - which buys huge size savings on photos and makes a mess of screenshots and text. There's no transparency in it at all.

What is BMP?

The Windows bitmap, which stores pixels raw with no compression worth mentioning. Files are enormous. It survives because it's trivial to read - if you're writing an image loader from scratch or feeding an embedded display, BMP is the format that needs no library.
