How it works
Your text is split into words and each word is counted. The more often a word appears, the bigger it is drawn. The biggest word goes in the middle, then each smaller word spirals out from the centre until it finds a gap where it touches nothing else.
Common words
Words such as the, and and of are the most frequent in almost any English text, so they would fill every cloud and say nothing about yours. They are left out unless you turn on Keep common words. Shortest word drops anything shorter, which is handy for clearing out stray letters and numbers.
Same words, new look
Shuffle layout places the words again from a new starting point, so the sizes stay the same but the arrangement changes. Press it until you like what you see. The colours, font and background change the look without moving anything.
Shapes, and your own SVG
Pick Circle, Heart, Star or Cloud and the words fill that shape instead of a rectangle. For any other shape, choose Your SVG and pick an SVG file, or drop one onto the cloud. Solid silhouettes work best: the filled part of the picture is where the words go, and the see-through part stays empty. Fill the shape repeats your words in small sizes to fill the gaps, so the outline reads clearly even with a short text. A PNG with a transparent background works too. Your file is read in this page and never uploaded.
Saving your cloud
Download PNG saves a sharp picture at twice the size shown, ready for slides, posters and posts. Choose Transparent for a background you can lay over your own. Copy word list copies every word with its count, one per line, which pastes straight into a spreadsheet.
Questions
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The words are counted and drawn in this page on your device, and nothing is saved once you close it.
Why is a word missing?
Either it is a common word (turn on Keep common words), it is shorter than Shortest word, it is past the Most words limit, or there was no room left for it. Fewer words, or turning words sideways, makes more room.
Are capital letters counted separately?
No. Magic and magic count as the same word, and the cloud shows it the way it is written most often in your text.
My SVG gives a rectangle. Why?
The words need a filled area to sit in. An outline icon made only of thin lines has almost nothing inside, so the cloud goes back to a rectangle and says so. Use a filled silhouette, or fill the shape in your drawing program first.
Can I just count words?
Yes. The Word Counter counts words, characters and sentences, and lists your most used words too.
