How to make a meme
Drop in a picture, choose one, or paste it with Ctrl+V. It opens with a box for top text and one for bottom text in the classic style: white letters with a black outline, in capitals. Type into the boxes in the list, or double-click a box on the picture to type there. The letters shrink to fit the box, so a long line gets smaller rather than spilling over. Drag a box to move it and drag its corner to make it bigger. Each box has its own colour, alignment, outline and capitals switch, and Add text adds as many boxes as you like.
Layouts
Plain colour is a blank square for a text-only meme. Caption bar puts a white bar with black text above the picture, the way modern memes are captioned. Two panels and Four panels each take a picture of their own: click an empty panel to fill it. Shape crops the result to a square, 4:5 for an Instagram post or 16:9, taking the middle of the picture. No meme templates are included: start from a picture you have the right to use.
GIFs and saving
An animated GIF stays animated: the text is drawn on every frame and the result is saved as a new GIF with the same timing. GIFs are limited to 256 colours, so a photo-like GIF may look slightly grainy. Anything else saves as PNG, which is exact, or JPG, which is smaller. Copy picture puts a PNG on the clipboard to paste into a chat, where the browser allows it. Nothing is added to your picture: there is no watermark and no logo.
Questions
Is there a watermark?
No. The file you save holds only your picture and the words you added.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. It is opened and drawn in this page, on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Why is the font not Impact on my phone?
The text uses Impact where your device has it, which most Windows PCs and Macs do. Phones without it get the closest bold, narrow font they have, so the letters may look a little different.
Can I move the picture inside a crop?
Not yet. A crop always takes the middle of the picture. To choose a different part, crop it first in Image Studio and then bring it here.
