How it sorts
Sort A–Z sorts the way a dictionary does: capitals and small letters together, Émile with the other E names, and numbers inside a line by their value, so item 2 comes before item 10. Sort Z–A is the same order backwards. Lines that are equal stay in the order they were.
Sorting by number
Sort 1–9 sorts by the first number on each line, so a list of scores or prices sorts by value: £4.50 coffee before £12 lunch. Commas in numbers such as 1,200 are read as thousands. Lines with no number go to the end, in A–Z order.
Before you sort
Blank lines sort to the top, so press Remove empty lines first. Words such as The and A at the start count like any other word: The Hobbit sorts under T.
Questions
Can it shuffle a list instead?
Yes. Shuffle, in the same group, puts the lines in a random order, and Reverse order turns the list upside down.
Does it sort the words within a line?
No. Each line is one item and keeps its words in order. To sort words, put each on its own line first.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Every change happens in this page on your device, and nothing is saved once you close it.
