Convert WebP to PNG

The usual reason is that something won't open a WebP - an older photo editor, a printer, a piece of software that stopped being updated. PNG is lossless and universally understood, so this is the safe landing place. Transparency survives; the file gets bigger.

What is WebP?

Google's format for the web, and a genuine improvement on both of the formats it replaces: lossy like JPG or lossless like PNG, transparency either way, and usually about 30% smaller. Every current browser reads it. Software that stopped being updated around 2019 often doesn't.

What is PNG?

PNG is the web's lossless image format. It compresses without ever degrading the picture and has a real alpha channel, which is why screenshots, logos, line art and anything with sharp edges or text belong in it. The trade is size: on a photograph, PNG is enormous compared to JPG.
