Convert PPM to PNG

PPM is uncompressed RGB with a four-line header - simple to write, wasteful to keep. PNG stores exactly the same pixels losslessly and much smaller, which is why this is the usual last step of an image-processing script.

What is PPM?

Uncompressed RGB behind a four-line text header - about as simple as an image format can be while still being one. Nobody ships PPM to users; it exists as the thing scripts and teaching code write when they'd rather not link an image library.

What is PNG?

PNG is the web's lossless image format. It compresses without ever degrading the picture and has a real alpha channel, which is why screenshots, logos, line art and anything with sharp edges or text belong in it. The trade is size: on a photograph, PNG is enormous compared to JPG.
