Convert BMP to TGA

Two old, simple, uncompressed-ish formats - but TGA is the one 3D and game tooling reads, and it supports an alpha channel that most BMPs don't carry.

What is BMP?

The Windows bitmap, which stores pixels raw with no compression worth mentioning. Files are enormous. It survives because it's trivial to read - if you're writing an image loader from scratch or feeding an embedded display, BMP is the format that needs no library.

What is TGA?

Targa dates to 1984 and refuses to die, because game engines and 3D packages standardised on it for textures and never had a reason to move. It keeps an alpha channel, optionally compresses runs of identical pixels, and is simple enough that every tool reads it.
