Convert M4A to MP3

M4A holds AAC audio, which sounds fine but isn't accepted everywhere - car stereos, older players and plenty of upload forms still want MP3 and nothing else. This is a re-encode rather than a repackage, so some quality goes; at 192kbps or above it's hard to notice.

What is M4A?

AAC audio in an MP4 container, which is what iTunes ripped to and what most podcast apps hand you. It sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate. It's also the file that gets refused by car stereos and upload forms often enough to keep this converter busy.

What is MP3?

The format that made digital music portable, and thirty years on it's still the safest bet that a file will simply play - any device, any car, any decade-old bit of hardware. It's lossy, its patents expired in 2017, and no browser has ever been able to write one, which is why encoding it here needs LAME.
