Convert ICO to PNG

An ICO is a container holding several sizes of the same icon. This pulls out the largest one and writes it as an ordinary PNG, transparency intact - which is what you want when you're reusing an icon as a normal image.

What is ICO?

Windows icons, and a container rather than an image - one file holds the same icon at several sizes, so Windows can pick the right one for a title bar or a desktop. It tops out at 256x256 and supports transparency, which is what stops an icon looking like a sticker.

What is PNG?

PNG is the web's lossless image format. It compresses without ever degrading the picture and has a real alpha channel, which is why screenshots, logos, line art and anything with sharp edges or text belong in it. The trade is size: on a photograph, PNG is enormous compared to JPG.
